At Vasque, we celebrate our past as we help shape the future. So it’s nice to know Vasque’s history reaches back half a century to the tradition of handmade mountain boots inspired by the Alps. For ages, Europeans have flocked to their high country, enjoying ancient trails over alpine cols. Our founder, William D. Sweasy, recognized the beauty in moving through the hills and brought the passion home--and Vasque boots were born.

Vasque boots helped open America’s great ranges—the Rockies, the Sierras, the Tetons, the Whites, the Cascades, to name a few—to people who’d never experienced the simple, profound joy of breaking a sweat above rock, gravel, snow, and ice. That was 1964. Nowadays, we’re as familiar a name as Mount Rainier, Canyonlands, or the AT. But the adventure—the wonder of discovery—never gets old. Your adventures, your discoveries, are as much a part of the Vasque legacy as the first pair of Sundowners, as we together write the next chapters of the great American outdoor adventure.

The Registration "RACE # 4- Red Wing Classic - June 11th" is not currently available.

Race Description

SPORT CLASS COURSE UPDATE: We have changed the course from previous years.  We are removing the "stairway to heaven" climb, and including an additional lap.  If you are a glutton for punishment and want the stairway climb, this is an excellent opportunity to step up to the Comp Class.

This event is both organized, and promoted by the Red Wing Area Mountain Bike Organization (RAMBO) and Ipsity, Inc. RAMBO has a wonderful, and long standing relationship with the city of Red Wing to build, and maintain sustainable trails that are available for everyone. Ipsity, Inc. will contribute part of the proceeds from this event back into the trails.

Course Description: The course offers some great mountain bike racing. It features a good mix of fast flowing descents, leg burning climbs, and fast sections for all riders. There’s plenty of tight, twisty singletrack with double track sections throughout to ride at your own pace.

Kids Comp Course: 1 lap with a nice mix of flowing singletrack and doubletrack.

Citizen Course: 2 laps of the best of the flowing singletrack without the most difficult climbs on the south side of the bluff.

Sport Course: 3 laps of the same flowing singletrack the citizen course rides without the most difficult climbs on the south side of the bluff.

Comp/Expert Course: 3 laps for comp/expert women or 4 laps for expert men with all of the singletrack and the top section of the downhill. The exit for the quarry will go to the right (the same as last year).

Other Information

Concessions: There will be a food concession stand available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Parking: Parking at Memorial Park is a challenge, and we need your cooperation to make it work. First, do no park on the access road. If you park alongside the road, be sure your car is completely off the pavement to ensure emergency crews can make it around. There will be no participant parking beyond the barrier. Parking in the lower quarry lot (by the new trailhead) will be reserved for event workers only. Unless the grass is too dry, we are going to open up the Frisbee golf area of the park for parking as in prior years to help ease the parking situation. Thanks for your help.

Red Wing Classic is calling!

The Red Wing Classic is one of the most iconic races in the series. Why? Because it's one of the oldest Mountain Biking trail systems in the state that we race at. Since the 90s Red Wing has hosted various versions of the Classic.

Who remembers the big sandy drop that was in the course back in '97? I do! There was a slower B line but I still remember taking that big drop off downhill to pass a few competitors. Only to be passed on the way back up to the top.

The modern course brings some of the same classic River Bluff climbs, mixes in new features and of course the side hill home to the finish line. One of the most spectacular views of any race can be seen there.

Take a look at the event page for more details on the race. This race is a great one for beginners to try out. The citizen course is short in length but big on fun! Loads of great single track, some grass roll out and surly a sprint to the finish.
