2011 Minnesota Mountain Bike Series Guidelines

Registration:

Series Registration
Racers who want to have each of their race results calculated for the Series, participate in Team Competition, and be eligible for end of season Series awards must register with the Series.
Series registration can be completed on line between April 15 and June 2 or at one of the first four Series races.
No Series registrations will be accepted after the forth Series race.
A permanent numberplate will be provided to each Series racer. This plate will be used for each Series race except for the Border Battle.
On line registration fee will be $15 from April 15 through May 14. “Day of” registration fee at one of the first four races will be $20.
Also, if a rider registers for the Series at the third or forth race, they will be allowed to count only one of the previous races that they raced in the Series standings.
Lost permanent numberplates and timing tag will be replaced for $10. A $5 fee will be charged for temporary misplaced numberplates and timing tags.
Racers can compete only in the Class of their assigned number, e.g. a racer with a Citizen Class permanent number cannot race in the Sport Class.
Racers deciding to change Race Classes during the season can turn in their assigned numberplate and receive a numberplate of the new class. A $10 fee will be charged. Racer’s results will not be transferred to the new class.

Race Weather Guidelines for Racers

 The following are guidelines for how the MNMBS will conduct races in the event of challenging weather.   Our primary consideration is the safety of racers, race support staff, and race visitors.

  • Races are held on their scheduled dates unless the racecourse on the day of the race is completely unrideable and dangerous.   Since 2002, no races have had to be canceled.
  • Race Promoters have the option of delaying the start of races from the published times if weather has created dangerous conditions.
  • Class starts may be delayed and courses may be altered or shortened because of weather conditions.
  • Day of changes due to weather should jointly be decided and agreed to by the Race Promoter, USAC official, and the Head Timer.
  • Wet weather course changes – Race Promoters are encouraged to develop wet weather course alterations in case of extremely wet conditions that threaten the trails used for the race.
  • In the presence of lightning, all racing should stop immediately.  Racing will continue once the Race Promoter, USAC official, and Head Timer have conferred.
  • Communication of delays, changes in start time, courses, etc. will be made by the Race Promoter.  Primary Communications will be done thusly:
  • Day or days prior to the race – Use MNMBS web race page
  • Day of race – Use public address system
  • MNMBS will not refund pre-registration fees due to inclement conditions.
  • MNMBS does not allow registration transfers to subsequent races due to inclement weather.

Team Racing Guidelines

General:

Teams (with a list of their members) will contact John Oman at j_oman@yahoo.com to register for the race season. All Team participants must have a Series registration to be eligible in the Team Competition. Series registration can be completed on line between April 15 and June 23 or at one of the first four Series races. No Series registrations will be accepted after the forth Series race.

Team registration will be due (send to John) no later than May 16th in preparation for the first Series race on May 21st Each team will designate a “Team Contact” to be the interface between the team and John and to communicate the team roster and changes. Any changes - (adds/deletes) in team members or new teams that take place after May 17 must be made by notifying John three days prior to the next race. On each individual race registration, a racer will identify that he is racing on a team and the name of the team. If there are discrepancies between the race registration and the list John provides the race timer, John's list will take precedent.

Team Scoring Guidelines

  • Team Competition will be held in Citizen, Sport, Comp, and Elite (Expert and Pro combined) classes.
  • Team competitions will be co-ed in Citizen, Sport, and Elite classes (no women’s comp class).  There will not be separate men’s teams or women’s teams but rather a combined team consisting possibly of both genders.
  • Men and women will still score points based on where they place within their gender.  Therefore, a male and a female can contribute the same number of points towards their team.  (Ex: There could be a 1st place male and a 1st place female on the same team.  They both would earn 1st place points towards their team’s total score.)  Their points scored will be combined for a total team score.
  • Team racers will not be separated into age groups
  • The top three racers from each team will count towards its team's total score. There is no maximum number of riders per team. For scoring purposes, if less than 3 riders on a team finish a race, the team will still receive a team score but will automatically be scored behind the teams with 3 riders.
  • A person may only be registered with one team at each race.
  • Team scores will be calculated separately from the overall individual standings and will reflect only how members of the team place against members of other teams. Team scores for each race will be calculated based on placing with the low score winning the event. First place in the race gets 1 point, second - 2points, third - 3 points, etc. For the overall season standings 1st place team at a race gets 150 points, second place team gets 142, etc.
  • End of the season recognition will be based on a team's top 7 events. In the event of a tie at the end of the year, the teams' best 8th event will be used.
  • An end of the year award will be given to the team that has the best overall placing in all 4 classes. Team scoring summary for series overall:

             1st = 150
             2nd = 142
             3rd= 135
             4th= 129
             5th= 124
             6th= 120
             7th= 116
             8th= 112
             And so on following the MNSCS overall guidelines on scoring.

  • Team scores will be posted by the middle of the week on the MNSCS web site.
  • If there is a discrepancy with a team score, it must be brought to John’s attention prior to the following race.  Team scores become final on the following race day.
  • The top teams will be recognized at the awards party at the end of the year.

             To be eligible for a Series award:
             Two teams participating: award = one place
             Three teams participating: award = two places
             Four or more teams participating: award = three places

MNMBS Competition Rules & Regulations

It is each participant’s responsibility to be aware of and to comply with these rules and regulations.  Thanks!

• Only registered participants will be allowed to start at any of the MNMBS events.  The race number, either a permanent number or the day issued number, must be displayed on the front of your bicycle during the race.  No rider shall cut, fold, mutilate, or apply decals or other markings to the MNMBS issued race number.  Nor shall any racer sell, trade, or give their issued number to another participant.   Penalties for selling, trading, or giving issued numbers to another participant will result in disqualification of both parties from the race and potential disqualification from participation in the MNMBS series.

• Every participant warming up or racing is required to wear a CPSC, ANSI, and/or SNELL approved helmet securely fastened to their head.  Riders must also wear proper racing attire, including a shirt and fully enclosed shoes while racing.

• Every participant competing at any event is responsible for having his or her bike in good working condition.  This includes, but is not limited to: at least one front and one rear brake which is fully function, plugged handlebar ends, no hazardous attachments including kickstands and reflectors, properly adjusted hubs and headsets, true wheels, and a sound frame.

• All participants must start with and ride the same bicycle throughout any single event.  Participants may not “cannibalize” or accept parts off anyone else’s bicycle during the race.

• All repairs during an event will be performed by the individual racer. No outside support is permitted. All spare parts and tools shall be carried by the individual racer, and to be used only by that racer.

• Short-cutting and/or cutting trail switchbacks will result in disqualification.

• A participant on his or her bicycle has the right-of-way over another participant pushing his or her bicycle during a race.  Lapped participants and those being overtaken by approaching riders shall yield the track (fastest part of the trail) when asked by another rider.  It is the responsibility of the approaching racer to pass safely and overtake the slower rider provided he or she does not interfere with the rider’s progress.  Riders shall voice their command by saying “Track” or “On your left” to make their presence known prior to overtaking a slower rider.

• Foul riding, unsportsmanlike behavior, the use of profanity, or flagrant discourtesy directed at participants, spectators, or officials is grounds for disqualification from that particular event.

• Mountain biking is an individual sport, and even though the MNMBS does have team competition, entering into agreement or forming alliances to control or alter the outcome of an event will result in disqualification from that individual event.

• Protests must be reported to or filed by a participant in the race.  In order for a protest ruling to be considered valid, all protests must be reported to or filed with a Race Official immediately following the race and up to 15 minutes following the posting of complete results for their class.  All results become final and cannot be changed as of the presentation of awards for each race class.

• Personal listening devices including CD players, mini-disc players, mp3 or digital audio players, or other listening devices that may interfere with a participants awareness to their surroundings and other participants are prohibited from use during racing.

• Year to year move up - Moving up into more advanced classes is done on the honor system. If you are significantly outpacing the competition in your class you are encouraged to move up. We encourage racers to have fun while competing against racers at a similar competitive level. Where necessary the executive committee will review protests and strongly encourage changes where needed.

• The sale of merchandise or display of products for promotional purposes at any MNMBS event without the permission from the MNMBS and the individual race director is prohibited.

• Pre-riding the race course after the start of the first race is prohibited and may result in being disqualified from that individual event.

• The race director, race official, and any MNMBS representative will make the final interpretation of any of these rules and any situation not specifically covered by these rules.

• Competition rules and regulations are subject to change without prior notice.
