RACE #6 - Dirt Spanker Classic

Dirt Spanker Classic, Superior, WI, July 08, 2012

Get ready for another great race at Mt. Du Lac.

Race Description

Cross-Country Mountain Bike Race

First race at 9:00am

The Dirt Spanker course offers everything a great mountain bike race could ask for. One minute your legs are screaming as your try to distance the pack while climbing and the next you’re trying to hang on as you plunge back down. Mix in fast, rooty, hilly forested sections and you have a course where the strongest rider wins but everybody has a great time. The course is 5 miles in length and features one sustained climb each lap, along with long sections of classic Upper Midwest style singletrack.

General Information

NO PRE-RIDING BEFORE 2:30 ON SATURDAY!  This is due to the rain we've had the last two days.  We should get some sun on Saturday to dry things out.  The later you decide to pre-ride on Saturday, the better off we all are.

Food and drink will be for sale on race day and primitive camping is available on-site for $5 per night. Mont du Lac has 17 rustic campsites away from the chalet and you can also camp along the periphery of the parking lot.  Please call ahead to reserve a campsite, 218-626-3797.  Check in for camping on Friday night is 9 pm.  Check in for camping on Saturday will be as long as people are still milling around in the bar after Saturday's festivities.  Mont du Lac has a bar that will be open Friday  and Saturday night and all day during the race.  You can purchase sports drinks or a post-race brew inside the chalet at the bar.

Saturday before the race COGGS and Mont du Lac will be hosting a bike festival so come early and enjoy the festivities. Here is the line-up for Saturday's events:

8:30 am - A 4 mile trail running race. Entry fee is a donation of any amount to COGGS, male and female winners each get 10% of the pot! The course will be the same as for the cross country mountain bike race.

After all the fun events of the day, there will be music going on the chalet Saturday night.

The course will be open for pre-riding to REGISTERED racers, starting at 10 am on Saturday. The XC course is on PRIVATE PROPERTY and there is a fee to ride the trail on any other day, except for Tuesdays if your a COGGS member.
