Race Description

The Dirt Spanker course offers everything a great mountain bike race could ask for. One minute your legs are screaming as your try to distance the pack while climbing and the next you’re trying to hang on as you plunge back down. Mix in fast, rooty, hilly forested sections and you have a course where the strongest rider wins but everybody has a great time. The course is 5 miles in length and features one sustained climb each lap, along with long sections of classic Upper Midwest style singletrack. 

This  year we also hosting the State Championship Super D, the Dirtspanker Super D, on Saturday. Come up early and compete in both races and all the fun events during the Festival on Saturday. The Super D will be day of registration and the cost is only $10. Registration goes from 8 am to 11 am and pre-riding is 9-12:30. Races start at 1 pm and there will be cash pay-out to the top 3 places.
 
The Mont Du Lac race course has been labeled as one of the top race courses in the Midwest, not only by the locals, but also by Minnesota pro riders. With a five mile loop that consists of leg burning climbs, screaming decents, and Mont Du Lac's trademark rolling singletrack, this course will challenge every rider. Each lap will test the rider's power, endurance, mind, and body to the max. This course offers something for everyone, from the first time rider to the seasoned veteran. The Dirt Spanker will offer you a true test and a great time.

1)* USAC Sanctioned - All Series events are USAC Mountain sanctioned. All Expert (Cat 1) riders need an annual USAC MTB License and all Pro Riders need an International License. To purchase a license visit www.usacycling.org

Minnesota Series Kids Fun Race

The Minnesota Series Kids Fun Race is designed to give children an opportunity to compete like their parents in a positive and fun environment. The Race is free to children ages 3 to 12.  Parent cyclists ride and race with the kids, providing motivational and physical support.Race starts at 12:45 PM! Helmets are required. Register on-site only by 12:30pm.

"Day of" registration opens at 7:30 am on August 17th.

Awards

Prizes will be awarded 3 places deep in each age group for all race classes. Top finishing Elite Group (Experts and Pros combined) will receive cash awards.  See the MNSCS Guidelines for payout details

We will also be giving away tons of fantastic swag from the Series Sponsors as well as our local COGGS sponsors. Stick around after your race because you probably won't leave empty-handed.

General Information

Food and drink will be for sale on race day and primitive camping is available on-site for $5 per night. Mont du Lac has 17 rustic campsites away from the chalet and you can also camp along the periphery of the parking lot.  Please call ahead to reserve a campsite, 218-626-3797.  Check in for camping on Friday night is 9 pm.  Check in for camping on Saturday will be as long as people are still milling around in the bar after Saturday's festivities.  Mont du Lac has a bar that will be open Friday  and Saturday night and all day during the race.  You can purchase sports drinks or a post-race brew inside the chalet at the bar.

Saturday before the race COGGS and Mont du Lac will be hosting the Minnesota State Championship Super D race, so come early and enjoy the festivities. Here is the line-up for Saturday's events:

1 pm - Minnesota State Championship Super D, the Dirtspanker Super D - A super D race involves a mostly downhill cross country bike course that can be done on a conventional cross country mountain bike or all mountin rig. This is the State Championship, for all the marbles. Pre-riding for the Super D will start at 9 am and go until 12:30, when the race starts. Cost is $10 and there will be cash pay-outs to the top 3 racers.

The course will be open for pre-riding to REGISTERED racers, starting at 3 pm on Saturday. The course will be closed for pre-riding during the Super D State Championship (9 am - 3 pm). COGGS Web Site - http://coggs.upnorthmn.net/
